Helpful tips to successfully sell you vehicle

Prepare yourself for selling

Know and list in ad the correct year, make, and model.

Know and list in ad engine size, transmission, interesting feature; option and accessories.

List in ad just enough to wet the buyers appetite but know everything possible about your vehicle to answer the buyers questions when they contact you.

(Make the buyer want your vehicle)

You don’t need to spend a cent on books or research fees to find information on your vehicle. Just type the year, make, model of your vehicle plus word information, data, or specifications, one of those three, in your computer “search box” and you will come up with pages of websites to give you what you are looking for.

Research the value of your vehicle

(For Non modified Original Vehicles)

Type Nada in the computer search box and click on “new car prices, used car values, new car buying” then click on “classic cars” and follow the prompts.

(For modified and original non modified vehicles)

Check the current collector vehicle auction reports on the internet. Also check current publications such as “hemming Motors News” and “The Auto trader classic cars Magazine” to see what prices are being asked for vehicle comparable to yours.

Establish your asking price.

Leave some room for ‘haggling’ between your asking price and your rock bottom price. Never put the words ‘firm’ or best offer ‘after your price—it drives away a lot of good buyers who don’t want to play that game and wait weeks for you to get offers. Put ‘negotiable’—it means you’re ready to deal now. It takes advertising effort to get the prospective buyer to your door the first time, but it’s ten times harder to get them back to your driveway again once leave, if ever.

Prepare your car for showing

A vehicle that can’t be test driven is hard to sell at a top price. If it is a restoration project don’t worry about this step. Don’t put any money into the vehicle that isn’t absolutely necessary. You probably don’t receive much, if any, of it back but you may need to spend some to get a top dollar. Have a good battery in it, pump up the tires and make it driveable.

Only put cash into necessary items to make it driveable. The word “driveable” is important here because a motor may “run” well but the car not makes it around the block it must be driveable to get the top price. However don’t go to the expense, for example, of a complete full tune up if the motor is so shot it won’t run any better anyway. Have your vehicle clean inside and out and polished if paint is good enough to do so.

Make sure you have the title available to see and that it is clear and negotiable. Remember there are cruisers at lances shows to help you with selling tips too.
